Your right under California law
California Insurance Code §758.5 prohibits AAA from requiring you to use their Approved Auto Repair shops for insurance claims. AAA can suggest preferred vendors for member services, but for insurance claims they cannot mandate a shop, penalize you for using an independent shop, or reduce your payout. Your choice is protected.

AAA pays us directly
AAA issues payment to us in most cases. Your out-of-pocket is your deductible.
