Sideswipe collision repair in Spring Valley

Sideswipe collisions happen when two vehicles pass too close and the contact zone slides along one vehicle's side. Unlike a single-point impact where energy concentrates in one area, a sideswipe distributes damage across a wide path. The leading edge of the contact usually leaves the deepest damage, the middle zone has scraping and deformation, and the trailing edge often has paint transfer and minor abrasion. Each zone requires a different repair approach.

The rocker panel runs along the bottom of the vehicle between the front and rear wheels and takes a disproportionate amount of sideswipe damage. Rockers are structural in unibody vehicles: they form the lower rail of the sill structure and tie the front and rear floor sections together. When a rocker is dented or pushed in, we check the inboard sill structure for damage before doing any cosmetic repair on the outer skin.

Door alignment is affected in almost every sideswipe because the impact force pushes the door inward at the impact point while the door hinge and latch hold their position. This creates a bow in the door skin and sometimes shifts the hinge pin enough to affect the door's swing travel. We correct door alignment and check hinge pin condition before painting because a painted door that hangs incorrectly will show gaps in daylight.

Mirrors on the struck side are almost always damaged in a sideswipe. The mirror housing is usually replaced rather than repaired because mirror housings are relatively inexpensive and broken mirror glass or a cracked housing leaves the driver with impaired visibility. If the mirror has a blind-spot warning LED or heating element, we ensure those functions are reconnected and tested before delivery.
